STAY and improvements to the blog :)

My wife gave me some awesome feedback on my blog posts thus far and it got me thinking. She showed me other writings that I have done (mostly just for fun) as well as some fun articles and how they are written online. She basically said “what’s your problem? Why do you get shy when you’re writing as Scar Daddy? You sound like some principal droning on over the loudspeaker when we all know the students are just texting, scrolling, or flirting with their neighbor. Why don’t you write the fun way you usually do?”

I had no answer to that. She’s right. I apologize for my boring writing so far.

This reminded me of a cause and company we support called STAY. STAY is a company that focuses their cause around reminding people to be their best and original selves. We shouldn’t have to change our face or how we talk, act, sing, laugh just to fit in or please others around us. I forgot about that and have been selling myself short while also giving a partially false face to those reading. STAY also strives to fight suicide. There is an unsettlingly large number of youth and young adults that choose to “leave” instead of “staying”. It saddening to watch and see friends and other loved ones of mine, even acquaintances be pushed to go down that road when other paths, though I’m sure very difficult, still put them in a place in the world where they can be happy and give back. Don’t you just wish you could literally remove some bricks off their backs from their burdens just long enough to get over whatever roadblocks they are hitting? It’s just something I am very passionate about especially as Scar Daddy because I recognize the power of life and what someone can do with what they’ve been given. It reminds me of the song by the Goo Goo Dolls (my favorite band), “Better Days”. In the song are the lyrics,

“And the one poor child who saved this world

And there's ten million more who probably could

If we all just stopped and said a prayer for them”

The “one poor child” references Jesus Christ and the Christian idea that he saved the world. But it goes on to say that there’s ten million more children out there that could save the world in so many different ways. There could be someone out there that is going to bring electronics and internet access to Central Asia or one that opens up the borders of North Korea in order to create a friendly nation, if only we would stop and say a prayer for them. What if those kids choose not to “stay”? What if they choose to leave? The world is NOT a better place with less of us in it.

I honestly have no idea how I would react and what I would do if I lost my own child to suicide. I would pray and hope that friends would be there to take a couple bricks during my hard time as I feel like I have done for others as well. I’d like to share a personal story a bit later, it will be in the Scar Stories section, about an experience I had with a friend in high school that ended in a few days of detention, in-school suspension maybe, I can’t remember all my punishments verbatim.

This post got real quick and it is very important to me so I had to post now, but look forward to more entertaining posts and stories in the future. We’ve all gotta have something to smile about. :)

STAY didn't pay me to do this and I in no way represent them in any way.
