If not me, who? If not now, when?

This is my first official blog post on the Scar Daddy Blog so I’m just going to give a more in detail “about me” that the about section gives. My name is Nathan Rasmussen. I live in Orem, Utah with my beautiful and wonderful wife Maryelena – pronounced Mah-dee-eh-lay-na – just roll your ‘r’ and you’ll be fine. We got married on August 15th in the Manti, Utah LDS Temple. This is not a blog for my religion although it is a huge part of my life and will come into play throughout our experiences. I only told you the date so you could remind me of my anniversary. Originally this blog was going to be published when we knew we were pregnant but getting to that point has been too difficult not to share. I’ve noticed that people grow closer by sharing their trials, so I wanted to be able to join that group of people that are “trying”. Hopefully my experiences and point of view help more than just myself and we can drop in with each other like good neighbors do.
I have been raised throughout the united states and been to almost every one except Florida and Alaska. Someday my wife and I will make those journeys together. Throughout all those moves, trips, and location adventures I have gained 285 scars through various means. Occasionally I will tell a story from my past that may relate to the post or just to bring up a laugh. Some of you may be able to say ‘been there’ but there may be some stories that are completely outrageous and impossible to duplicate even for me. The ‘Daddy’ part of the name was hopefully referring to me as a father, but that half is still in the works.
I’ve graduated from Utah Valley University with a bachelors in public Relations, previous to that I graduated from Amarillo College with an associates in Mass Communication. I served an LDS mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tacoma, Washington and very much enjoyed my time and learned a lot there. My jobs after high school mostly included day care work. I knew I would be a father someday and wanted to have as much experience as I could before really doing it. I learned how to work with kids with so many different personalities and disabilities. I know that this has made me so much more ready for my children although I know that none of them are ever the same even if they have the same doctoral diagnosis. My wife is studying elementary education and I couldn’t be more equally yoked, meaning she complements me perfectly. Anything I can’t seem to handle she carries out with perfection. She is so good with clothes, children, food, decoration, parties, and gifts. Simply amazing, smart, and gorgeous. My next post will probably include a lot of her perspective as it will be the story of how we met.
